As you've probably heard the governor has indicated that Kentucky churches should be permitted to hold their first Sunday services on May 24th and we are thrilled! The staff, elders, and I have been discussing reopening plans and are working to make sure that when we reopen we will do everything in our power to keep people healthy at worship. We have already begun making some changes that will allow us to resume in-person worship and also still offer livestreaming for those who will need to continue "attending online" for the foreseeable future.
We are reviewing the current CDC guidelines for churches and are waiting for the governor to release additional guidance for Kentucky churches. One thing we know is that we will have to limit our attendance in worship. This is why we will be hosting more than one worship service and will ticket each of these events. Don't worry, the tickets will be free, they're simply a way for us to control the size of the worship service to comply with social distancing guidelines. Details on how to reserve your seat will be released when we finalize everything.
Additionally when we resume worshiping together we will have to maintain social distancing. This will mean things like coffee service, passing communion or offering, handing out bulletins, will all be paused. The plan now is for communion to either be placed on the seats ahead of time or on several tables throughout the WOC. Sunday school classes and Kids' Place programming will also remain paused until further notice. Don't worry, we'll continue to offer our online programs for youth until we can resume a more normal schedule.
We remain committed to complying with recommended guidelines for everyone's safety and it may take a little time for us to get everything in place. Prior to this announcement our plan had been to resume services on June 3rd. We're now working to open by May 24th but may need more time to get everything in place.
We will be keeping everyone in the loop as our reopening date draws near - no one is more eager for us to resume meetings than we are! Please be patient with us and pray for us as we work to do church in a different way. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the church office
